Eversport Volleyball Rules and Guidelines
General Format
The league is set up like a structured open gym with league officials present to offer guidance and tips in order to help all players develop their game. For the novice bracket your game day may start with some instructional advice and may contain modified elements to promote better game play and skill development.
Teams will play in the gym during their hour of scheduled game time, from 3:00-4:00 or 4:00-5:00 pm. Players can decide if they want to hold additional practice time with their team.
Parents should preferably pick up students after their scheduled games, but players are welcome to stay the entire time if needed.
Teams will play 3 games during the regular season. The results of all three games will be used to determine standings and playoff seedings.
The first two (2) games will be played to 25 points and the winning team must win by 2 points.
The third game will be played to 15 points.
Substitutions
All players will evenly rotate throughout the games.
Substitutions should take place every time there is a new side-out for your team.
Substitutes should generally enter at the service position, aka court "1", and play all the way around. However, if your team has more than one substitute you may choose to have an additional substitution spot opposite the server, aka court "4", and come in at the front left in order to get players in faster.
Basic rules
You get three hits per side, excluding blocks.
Lines are considered in.
Players will rotate clockwise whenever their team gets a “side-out”
Players must maintain their spots in the rotation.
Back row players cannot spike from inside the 10’ line.
Servers can’t serve out of order just because someone might be better at it.
Players must not hit the net with their body or cross over into the opponent's side of the court.
Players may not lift, carry or throw the ball.
Serves cannot be blocked or spiked back
Beginner/Intermediate court modifications
At the start of the season the game official may award teams a bonus point for the completion of a winning bump-set-spike sequence. This is done to encourage and reward beginning players for attempting to play the right way. Officials will notify teams before the match starts whether this bonus is in effect.
Depending on the accuracy of the server, the official may allow the server to move in closer to encourage more rallies.
Depending on the time remaining, the official may elect to play the third game to 25 instead of 15. Teams will be notified prior to the start of the 3rd game.
Helpful suggestions
Make sure to keep safety in mind.
Never roll a ball near someone jumping.
Yell "ball!" or "ball on!" if a ball goes to the other court or another player who might not see it.
Encourage your team to talk and communicate. This will not only help prevent confusion, but will also lower the risk of injuries from players crashing into each other.
Encourage your team to cheer and support each other through good plays and bad. Volleyball is a great social sport that gets even better when everyone feels connected to the team.
